From Watercolors to Silk: A Journey Beyond the Canvas
Betsy’s Story
Betsy Allaire is an award-winning artist that now has an unusual canvas. In fact, it isn't a canvas at all.
It’s Silk.
She creates beautiful one-of-a-kind hand painted silk scarves. She creates the long wrap-around scarves and large square scarves as well.
Betsy began painting when she lived in New York. Her first foray into the art world was working in watercolors on paper. Her work has been featured in shows, in print and even on outdoor billboards.
Each is One-of-a-Kind
Betsy Allaire creates each scarf to not be like any other.
If you own a scarf by the artist, you will never see another person wearing one like yours.
She begins with a concept in her mind of what the scarf will be.
Then, she sketches out the idea on paper. Next she decides on the color palette for the scarf and then begins painting.
It’s been over six years since she first experimented with dyes on silk. Now, she has developed her own process to achieve her desired effect.
She does not reveal the entire process.
